Robert and Nicholas Dwan are brothers with deep roots in the traditions of the River Thames. Their family has an exceptional legacy in the historic Doggett’s Coat and Badge Race – with both brothers winning in their respective years, alongside their father, uncle, and cousin. This achievement makes the Dwan family the group with the most living winners of this prestigious event.

For over 500 years, their family has worked as Thames Watermen and Lightermen, building a legacy of skill, dedication, and river expertise. This heritage gives Robert and Nicholas an unrivalled depth of knowledge and experience on the Thames, forming the foundation of everything they do today.

Together, they founded Thames Marine Services in 2015, recognising a clear opportunity to deliver a reliable, high-quality fuel service on the Thames. Since launching, the company has grown significantly, expanding its offering to include lubricants supply, crewing, mooring, engineering support, and waste oil removal services.
